Cherokee Valley Mid-Spring Update: Core 450, The Shop Grand Openings and Golf Course Reconfiguration

April and May are shaping up to be two of the most exciting months in Cherokee Valley Course and Club history. Both The Shop and Core 450 are opening, and the golf course has returned to its original configuration.

Oh, and not to mention summer camps, events, membership offerings and more. Here’s the skinny on what to look for as the dogwoods and azaleas continue to bloom, and we transition from our winter overseed to our lush summer Bermuda.

1. The Grand Opening of Core 450

After years of planning, construction, a global pandemic and more planning and construction (and multiple road trips to other cities to check out other awesome eateries for ideas), Core 450 is about to debut. We’re planning a soft opening over the next few weeks with friends, family and members to get everything just right.

Then, in early to mid-May, we’ll open to the public and look forward to hosting everyone on these beautiful late spring and early summer days and nights. The thought of golfers playing into our new mountain lodge-style restaurant and golf shop on holes nine and 18, patrons looking on, puts smiles on our faces.

“The timing could not be better to shine,” owner Matthew Jennings recently told The Core, our restaurant blog. “This area needs a place that is a safe beacon to enjoy great food in a welcoming atmosphere. We have the opportunity to serve our guests in our open-air, indoor dining room along with dining outdoors while enjoying beautiful views and music.”

We’ll be updating the website, soon, with online reservations, menus and other cool stuff. To keep up-to-date on Core 450 news, specials, events and more sign-up for our e-newsletter and follow us on Facebook. And for more info on our innovative and entertaining Chef’s Club, click here.

2. The Debut of ‘The Shop’

We are excited to announce that we are moving our golf operations to The Shop as of Thursday, April 15th. The Shop is located on the bottom level of Core 450, and as of 7 a.m. this morning (April 15th), we’re open for business.

We ask that all golfers please report to The Shop for checking in for your tee time, getting range balls, grab-and-go food and beverage and shopping. This is a pretty big change, both aesthetically and logistically, so here are a few more nuggets of info:

The golf cart storage is adjacent to The Shop, and the cart staging area and pick-up is a straight shot out the back door. From there, the first tee (formerly the third hole) is just a few yards away. Talk about efficient! We’ll get into more of the reconfiguration further down the blog post.

The Shop hours will be from 7 am - 5:30 pm daily, and the parking lot is closed to all carts, including private cart owners, and Finn Cycles. Food and beverage operation will be limited to grab-and-go in The Shop until Monday, April 26th. And lastly, the Event Center will be closed.

3. Golf Course Reconfiguration

As one of our members recently said, “a good golf course should shake your hand as you arrive and kiss you goodbye as you leave.”

Well, that’s precisely what the reconfigured layout at Cherokee Valley will do. The third hole has reverted to the first hole and the second hole is now the 18th playing into Core 450 and The Shop.

You can get the entire “play by play” on the course reconfiguration at our blog post from 2020. We tested it a few times last year and the feedback from golfers was tremendous. We already have new scorecards available in The Shop and on the carts.

With No. 1 being a downhill, straight par-4 with no forced carry, the new routing offers golfers a “softer” start to their round. The new first hole is followed by a short par 3 and reachable par 5, so scoring options abound. What’s more, it allows for a traditional “turn” after the ninth hole (currently No. 11) where golfers can restock on drinks, snacks or grab lunch to go.

We think you’re going to love it.

4. FCA Golf Day Camp

We are extremely excited to announce the dates for the 2021 FCA Golf Day Camp at Cherokee Valley, hosted by member and former Atlanta Braves pitcher Jose Alvarez.

5. Membership

With the opening of Core 450 and all the great things we have planned for the rest of the year and beyond, becoming a member at Cherokee Valley is an affordable way to become part of an inclusive (and downright fun) golf family. There’s no initiation fee, no food and beverage minimums, and monthly dues are well below that of a fully private club. Learn more about our flexible plans, here
